Kindergarten Fantasy Unit | BME Writing | Writers Workshop

This is a two week fantasy unit to help kindergarten writers become confident in creating fairy tales story writing skills with a beginning, middle and end. Kindergarten students will learn how to add a hero and villain to their story, add made up characters and a magical setting.

This unit goes through the book making process slowly by allowing students to complete at their own pace. Students will be met where they are developmentally with 3 different book options. The headers at the top of each writing pages allows students to stay organized and for teachers to know at a glance what they are working on.

What's included:

• 2 weeks of lesson plans (10 lesson plans)
• 8 anchor charts (fantasy writing, fantasy writing may have.., fantasy settings, some fantasy settings are real, sentence starters, fantasy checklist, fantasy writing, problem/solution
• 2 options for a rough draft
• 3 differentiated student book options with B, M or E labeled at the top of each page (pages have lines AND "roads" for handwriting)
• Directed Drawings used: 5 versions of princesses, queen, king, 3 evil queen versions, villain, 3 versions of girl, good witch, bad witch, scarecrow, tin person, 2 dwarfs, mermaid, merman, pirate, fairy god mother, 2 fairies, dragon, beast, alligator, horse, frog, carriage, wand, castle, village, tower, hot air balloon, tornado, crown, and ship
• Parent notes and celebration hats for end of unit

How to Use:

• Refer to daily lesson plans which contains materials and mentor texts that you will need.
